I always used to have a feeling that I am capable of anything in painting. It is only hard to arouse me.

To create great art with positive signs is much harder than to create something convincingly adverse, which is easier.

I am sure that if people have been viewing paintings and reading art books as often as they are watching movies and listening to music, they would show greater improvement.

A person in everyday routine rusts his mind and loses his primary feelings. One has to heed oneself.

Sometimes I think that the highest inspiration comes in an instant after making love.

There must be mystery in painting, something elusive. Explicit truth in arts is alien to my ego.

To certain extent I’m not a public person, I don’t like public events. I like to socialise, but I am not social.

(Inita Saulite-Zandere, Grown-up no-nonsense child, magazine ”Pastaiga” 2008)

Is it not evident that most of the people today have narrow-minded imagination and one has to strain oneself sufficiently to discern in non-specific works of art something explicit.

This is positive that one has to aspire for something. People are used to finished items. However, humans must be better trained and, to be frank, the art is a rather elitist subject. It seems that not everybody is endowed with ability to perceive art and it is not exclusively the problem of education and cultural level. Merely people, due to their individuality, might not have ability to appreciate art.

(Marite Kancha, newspaper “Diena”1999)

The soul is cloaked with routine and covered with layers of information, which have been selected by us. Occasionally, it reminds about itself in the most unexpected cases, it casually addresses to a person and then it is necessary to heed it.

Images call upon me from everyday life. Surrounding world, environment appeals to every artist. One of the most important themes is the woman.

(Baiba Sipeniece, magazine “Majas viesis”2003)

Andrei’s works excellently look out in modern interior with emphasis on glass and metal. Artist cannot be independent from his time and peculiar to it artistic trends. I assume that while sketching, Andrei thinks about space, in which his future paintings will be placed. In spite of often evident saturated, intense colouring, even with dramatic, subdued accent, his paintings are marked by cool aesthetics and, while viewing his works, this is the first matter one would like to point out. It would be in vain to seek there any personal emotions or self-reflection. The artist excellently manages the opportunities which are provided by oil painting technique. The works have impressive profoundness of colours, accentuated contrasts and soft transitions. Andrei’s strong side is masterful sketch drawing, what cannot be noted about every artist.

(Anda Treija, fine arts expert, Gallery “Daugava”)

Andrei Amelkovich is an artist with excellent feeling of colouring and line. His works have peculiar unity of painting and graphics, in which picturesque background, graphical gracefulness of lines, meticulously thought through design, at instances tangible presence of divine inspiration, all together create canvases, which are printed in memory. As a sign of professional maturity in conjunction with child’s purity are seen graphical characters in his paintings, starting with understandable only to him (may somebody else) and ending with universally understandable.

(Ieva Raiskuma, Kisses, painful perceptions, miracle, “Literature, Art, We”1996)

Distinct talent of Amelkovitch allowed him easily and naturally join the master’s circle of tonal painting, which is traditionally highly appreciated in the Latvian art. However, he discovered his own, fairly modern manner of expression. His painting is sensual, refined in nuances, visually beautiful, sometimes with somewhat playful appearance of slight tiredness.

(Ruta Muizniece, Master of fine arts,1999)
